Christ the Savior Orthodox Church Master Plan

Nurture collaborated with Christ the Savior Orthodox Church in Chicago to develop a comprehensive Master Plan for its existing historic property, which includes a church building, open courtyard, and rectory building.

This plan was crafted through a combination of on-site observations and a series of visioning sessions that engaged various stakeholder groups within the congregation to understand physical and programmatic priorities.

Following the observation and information gathering, Nurture worked with the Client to create a conceptual design aimed at revitalizing and repurposing some of the church’s most critical spaces to support its continued growth and preserve its historic character.

The objective was to adapt the use of both buildings on the property and the out-door space between them to better serve the gathering, educational, and administrative needs of the congregation.

The Master Plan serves as a strategic guide to achieve the desired programmatic uses and accommodate current uses more effectively, all while protecting the elements that make Christ the Savior a unique house of worship. Its purpose was to steer future development in a logical and organized manner, minimizing duplication of effort and unnecessary expenditures.

By following an Integrated Design Process, all project stakeholders had ample opportunity to contribute to the design and voice priorities and concerns to inform a comprehensive approach to improvement projects and phasing.
