Kane County Forest Preserve Master Plan

Nurture provided historic preservation consulting for the Forest Preserve District of Kane County’s Comprehensive Master Plan, integrating cultural resource preservation into the District’s long-term planning.

The work began with a summit where we collaborated with District staff to identify six key historic structures for focused evaluation. Using existing records, drawings, and archival materials, we established a clear understanding of each structure’s historic significance and physical condition.

Following this, we conducted detailed site visits to assess building conditions, patterns of use, site access, and infrastructure needs.

Throughout the project, Nurture participated in two stakeholder meetings, assisting with visioning exercises and SWOT analyses to align preservation priorities with broader community goals. Our research and field findings were summarized in a comprehensive memorandum, which included documentary photos and recommendations for maintenance, improvement, or further study.

By embedding preservation considerations within the District’s overall planning, Nurture laid the groundwork so the County's historic assets are thoughtfully managed and preserved as integral parts of the District’s future growth, climate resilience efforts, and sustainability goals over the next ten years.
