Eastgate Retrofit Single Family Housing
The Community and Economic Development Association of Cook County, Inc. (CEDA) stands as one of the nation’s largest private, nonprofit Community Action Agencies, operating within the expansive Cook County, Illinois area.
CEDA offers a variety of programs and services in the areas of community and economic development, education, emergency assistance, employment and training, energy conservation and services, health and nutrition, and housing.
Affordable Housing Options, LLC (AHO), a nonprofit entity within CEDA, provides essential information, education, and guidance to a diverse range of residents, including prospective homebuyers, current homeowners, renters, and those experiencing houselessness.
CEDA and AHO chose to partner with Nurture, to lead a decarbonization retrofit design effort for the transformation of three condemned single-family homes in the scenic Village of Park Forest, Illinois. Nurture conducted multiple site visits with documentation of existing conditions, to best inform the design of a high-performance envelope with energy-efficient systems, ready for on-site renewables to lower utility and maintenance costs for future homeowners.
The construction will be executed by Revolution Workshop, a local nonprofit social enterprise that provides construction workforce development for unemployed or underemployed people in partnership with area businesses. In doing so, this collaboration makes a substantial contribution to the sustainable economic development of the Village of Park Forest community, aligning perfectly with CEDA’s overarching mission to enhance the lives and prospects of the county’s residents, representing a significant step towards achieving affordable housing solutions.
