Citizens for Conservation (CFC) has long championed seed conservation and education across northeastern Illinois. The Seed Nursery project extends that legacy by investing in shared infrastructure that supports restoration work, volunteer engagement, and long-term ecological resilience. From the outset, Nurture approached this effort as a partnership rooted in collaboration and respect for CFC’s mission driven culture. Our role has been to translate collective vision into a clear and achievable path forward while celebrating the community that makes CFC’s work possible.
Beginning with feasibility and concept planning, as Prime and Architect of Record, Nurture worked closely with CFC staff and board leadership through a series of thoughtful integrated workshops. These conversations, paired with site analysis, survey information, and visioning documents, shaped a program that balances ambition with stewardship. This process empowered CFC to confidently select a preferred path forward that aligns operational needs with volunteer capacity and financial responsibility.
The resulting plan brings together raised growing beds, greenhouse and hoophouse structures, and a seed barn that functions as both a working hub and a community gathering space. Thoughtfully integrated site elements and utility upgrades support daily use while setting the groundwork for future adaptability. As the project advances, Nurture remains focused on delivering resilient and mission aligned spaces. This next chapter transforms years of care for the land into built form, strengthening CFC’s ability to restore biodiversity and educate volunteers with a didactic approach.
